Family Activities

For a U.S. health insurance company

Spring. A woman reads under a large tree, a grandfather pushes a girl on a swing, a parent and child plant a young tree, and a child plays with two cats. Summer. A mother and daughter spray a garden hose, a boy runs through the water, a child rides a bike, and a father and daughter play baseball. Fall. A family pushes pumpkins in a wheelbarrow, a girl gathers apples beside a cat, and a father lifts his child to pick an apple. Winter. Families ride sleds, children make snow angels, and a dog runs through the snow.

Every family, every season.

MY ROLE

Illustration, from the first style samples to the final set.

Spot illustrations for the company’s website, showing warm, friendly families of every age and background. The client wanted something unique, not clip art.

Two versions of the winter scene side by side. The initial design uses brighter colors. The final design uses warmer, softer colors, adds facial expressions, and adds a family on sleds.
Initial design. Final design. Warmer, desaturated colors, subtle facial expressions, and sledding to make winter more active.

Laundry Service

For a laundry pickup and delivery service

A delivery person hands a laundry bag to a man in a suit at his office. Two smaller scenes show the same delivery to a mother holding a baby and to a young man.

A service explained in pictures.

MY ROLE

Illustration and icons for the website, from the owner’s rough sketches to final artwork.

Each graphic on the company’s website answers a question a new customer might ask about who the service is for, how much to send, or how to order.

Three laundry baskets: one full, one overflowing, and one with clothes spilling around it.
Three order sizes, by weight. On the order page, the basket changes as customers choose a size, so they see the difference at a glance.
Two sets of icons for ordering. On the left, bold black outlines in circles of color. On the right, a softer set: a hand holding a phone with a pick-up date, a laundry bag, a van going back and forth, a bag handed over, stars, and buttons.
Two icon styles for the ordering steps and buttons. The softer set on the right became the final.

Words We Don’t Say

For author K.J. Reilly

A colorful hand-drawn mind map. A teenager in a yellow hoodie stands at the center, surrounded by themes such as homelessness, veterans, freedom of speech, loss and guns, each in its own color and shape, with characters, questions and small drawings branching out and arrows linking ideas.

A novel’s ideas,
mapped for a classroom.

MY ROLE

Illustration, hand-lettered labels and layout, for a large-format print.

A mind map of a young adult novel published by Disney Hyperion. The main character stands at the center. Each theme gets its own color and shape, with the characters and questions it raises branching out, and arrows connect ideas across the story.

Two earlier drafts of the mind map. The first is a sparse sketch with thin colored outlines. The second is fuller, with more themes and colored outlines.
Earlier drafts. The character changed, and the color grew from thin outlines to bold fills.
