Digital Worlds: Level Up

Unified Field for The Strong National Museum of Play · 2023

Four games,
four ways to play.

MY ROLE

Interaction and visual design for four of the exhibit’s activities, from wireframes to final screens.

Pixel Portrait station. Giant pixel hands frame a screen that reads Take your portrait, showing a girl redrawn in 8-bit style.
Pixel Portrait. A camera redraws visitors in the graphics of different game eras.

These games teach video game history through play. Each one has to explain its own physical controls before anyone can play.

Four era cards. 8-bit with a pixel knight, ASCII with a castle drawn in characters, flat art with a neon sunset, and low poly with a faceted tree.
Four eras to choose from. 8-bit, ASCII, flat art and low poly.
Clever Lever wireframe flow. Scan your band, choose a level with the lever, see how to play, match the cage lights, and reach Success or Time is up.

Clever Lever, wireframe. Scan a band, pull the lever to pick a level, then match the lights to open the gate.

Clever Lever final screen. Match the lights above with this pattern, set in a stone archway with gears.
Success screen. Glowing dot letters read Success, with You matched the pattern and unlocked the door.
Clever Lever, final screens. A steampunk puzzle played with a real lever.
